Information for Area Attractions

Wild AnimalsSafari – The Wild Wilderness Drive Through Safari is located right in Gentry, about 4 miles from the Inn. The Safari has an amazing collection of animals from around the world. Having lived in Africa for several years, we find the drive through both fun and rewarding. The petting zoo always has babies for everyone, and our own grown children love playing with the baby tigers and lions which are available most of the year.

War Eagle and Ole Applegate Craft Fairs -- In May and October, the area around the Inn hosts 9 world-famous craft fairs. Most famous is the War Eagle Craft Fair, but in order to handle the thousands who bring their crafts and those who are shopping, additional sites have been opened. Applegate, Bella Vista, Dixieland, the Convention Center, Sugar Creek, Quail Oaks, Hillbilly Corner and the Fair grounds are all within minutes of our Inn.

Golfing – Dawn Hill Country Club is just around the corner from the Inn. The course is open to our guests, and PGA golfers and their agents play the course frequently. In addition, Northwest Arkansas is host to many courses and has become known as a golfers paradise. Guests can stay here at the Inn for a week and play a different excellent course every day.

Caving – Along Highway 59 going North toward the Missouri state line, there are several caves that are open to the public. The Spanish Treasure Cave is the closest, and although it is not the largest, it does host overnight slumber parties for young people. The Bluff Cave is an historic cave operated by a single family since it was discovered many years ago. Indian skeletons and artifacts have been uncovered there, and it is quite an adventure.

Canoeing -- The Illinois and Elk Rivers host many canoe companies with wonderful water activities ranging from 1-2 hour easy trips to all day adventures. None of the rivers are dangerous, and even the inexperienced can have a wonderful day in nature.

Antiques – This area is well-known as being a great antique haven. There are enough antique and craft malls to keep one busy for days. Out-of-state guests say the prices are very reasonable, and everything from glass and pottery to furniture is available.

Natural Falls State Park – This lovely state park is just across the border in Oklahoma. The whole park is fairly uncommercialized but hosts a beautiful fall in a spectacular setting. The short hike to the falls is a lovely afternoon trip.

Cherokee Casino – Just across the border into Oklahoma, the Indian Territory hosts a casino that is open 24 hours a day. The setting is new, safe, and fun for those seeking this kind of pleasure.

Fishing – Roaring River State Park is within an hour’s drive north, and fishing there is fantastic. The fish hatchery releases fish daily during the summer, so the river abounds with fishermen. The park is beautiful and relaxing, and the spring pumps millions of gallons per hour right at the foot of a cliff – quite interesting!

Historic towns and trains – Civil War buffs will enjoy Pea Ridge and other military sites in the area. Reinactments occur in spring and autumn, and a historic map of battles and encampments is available at the Inn. War Eagle Mill (a working mill), is close as well as Eureka Springs, a famous summer retreat for the Victorian wealthy. An historic train makes several trips every week from Springdale to Van Buren for sightseeing and nostalgic moments.

Dining – The area hosts many wonderful restaurants, and we will be happy to assist you with your dining arrangements. We have menus from twenty restaurants right here at the Inn.

Branson, Missouri and Silver Dollar City – Two hours away, music shows and the amusement park Silver Dollar City abide in the Ozarks. If you would like to see a fantastic show by a well-known celebrity, we can make reservations for you, or you can spend a day walking through a theme park from yesterday’s world.
